How do I book a test date for a Learner's Licence for light motor vehicles and what must I take along?

By law the applicant has to present him/herself in person at any Driver’s Licence Testing Centre and take along the following items:

Original South African green bar-coded ID Book / South African Passport & a black and white copy
Two recent black and white ID photos
Booking Fee (payable to the authorities to reserve a test date)
Currently the fee is R108-00 in Gauteng
Black pen to fill out the blue Learner’s Licence Application form (LL1)
Spectacles (if applicable) for the eye test

To book a Learner's Licence test date could take anything from an hour up to a couple of hours, depending on the queues at the testing station and how many staff members are available for processing the applications.

N.B. Ensure availability on the date provided for a test before paying and confirming. Once the applicant has paid for (confirmed) a test date on the ENATIS system he/she cannot book another test anywhere else in the country until that date has passed.
